- 4 / 5By Greg MonroeJust walked out to the median of the Overseas Hwy. ( Rte.1) from Rock Reef Resort in Key Largo to Chef Sal's Ballyhoo's Seafood Restaurant. Our server, Billy told us Chef Sal just took over Ballyhoo's kitchen about a month ago. He said Chef Sal's also the new owner. That can never hurt, in my opinion! We sat outside where smoking is permitted. They had several specials this Thursday and we ordered a couple of them....WOW! I had a pan sauteed yellow tail snapper in a jalapeno glaze and my long suffering Mrs. had the "Scallops Lorenzo" (with king crab in a cream sauce)! The sides were also very good and in larger portions. Homemade mac & cheese and black beans and rice. Two kinds of bread were served with our meal...pretzel bread 'sticks' and mini biscuits (with spicy pepper jelly). Billy informed us that they are working on their craft beer list and assured us it will be refined & expanded very soon. They also serve a selection of wines. If you're done searching for the perfect sunset spots and ocean views, check out Ballyhoo's in the median of the Overseas Hwy. @ MM 98. I bet you'll enjoy it. Tell Billy we recommended him and Chef Sal!
Oh yeah, we got Key Lime Pie to go too! Delicious.January 08, 2017 - 5 / 5By Ja BI'm biking my way down to Key West, then saw this little spot on the left. It looked intriguing so I popped in. The staff was extremely friendly and let me charge up my electronics while I ate. I had the sweet tea (spot on), the hogfish sandwich special with the spicy mustard spread (fantastic - just a very lightly coated and delectable), the green beans as a side (served perfectly done - just a bit al dente), and for dessert the Key Lime Pie (the menu stated that it was voted best in Key Largo) which was superb! A great spot overall - cost around $30 without tip, but well worth it!!December 14, 2016
- 1 / 5By patty laboraWanted great seafood went at 7:50 no one waited on us to be seated. The bus boy came over said only can sit outside which normally wouldn't be that bad but tonight 60 degrees and my daughter and I had on a dress. So we sat outside for 15 min no server. Finally she came over took our drink order and 15 more min went by no drinks or food order so we left and went to fish house we got right in food in Ten mins and it was great!August 06, 2016

The service was great and overall it was a really great place to stop fpr lunch and enjoy the nice weather on their outdoor patio, which has a great level of shade. We would definitely come back again.June 01, 2016
